4.7 Recording a message

To record or re-record a greeting or system message, click 'add' or 'edit' within the voice messages section of the STFax preferences.

• File:  - this is the location of the file on your hard drive. As default, the messages are stored in 'STFax:Messages/'.

• Note:  - enter a note or description for this message. As default, the supplied messages will already have descriptions which are attached to them.

  It is a good idea to keep the format of the existing messages, especially system messages. For instance, if the note for RemoteAccessMenu states 'To check your voice mail, press 1. To receive your faxes, press 2. To change your mailbox greeting, press 3'. If you changed this text to something different, you might forget how STFax expects the Remote Access greeting to work (ie. internally STFax will expect the user to press '3' to change their mailbox greeting).

• Record:  - you can record via a number of options:
  1. Microphone  - record via the internal microphone on your modem or connect a microphone to the 'mic' socket on the modem, and use this.

  2. Handset  - you can connect your phone handset to the modem and use this for recording.

  3. Audio card  - you can use your internal audio, with a microphone, to record your greeting.

  4. File  - you can import a wav file from your hard drive or other location.

• Play:  - you can choose to playback the message via a number of options:
  1. Headphones  - playback the message via the modem speakerphone or headphones connected to the 'ear' socket on your modem.

  2. Handset  - playback the message via a phone handset connected to your modem.

  3. Amiga audio  - playback the message via your internal audio, through speakers connected to the audio output sockets.

• Stop  - stop a message during playback.

• Save WAV  - save a current message to your hard drive, or other location, in 'wav' format.
